how can i get trac to use a png as the header_logo image that resides in the trac project's htdocs directory? |
| [01:05:57] |
<s0undt3ch> |
Orbyn: on [header_logo]: |
| [01:06:24] |
<s0undt3ch> |
src = site/your_image.png |
| [01:08:41] |
<Orbyn> |
like http://blah/image.png? |
| [01:09:20] |
<s0undt3ch> |
Orbyn: like I said: |
| [01:09:33] |
<s0undt3ch> |
src = site/blah/image.png |
| [01:09:59] |
<s0undt3ch> |
and blah dir is <project_env>/htdocs/image.png |
| [01:10:29] |
<Orbyn> |
and site is the full http://hostname/ ? |
| [01:10:53] |
<s0undt3ch> |
site is a "alias" to your project env htdocs dir |
| [01:11:16] |
<s0undt3ch> |
and it translates to http://your.url.tld/chrome/site/image.png |
| [01:11:36] |
<Orbyn> |
ok, that works, site/image.png |
| [01:11:44] |
<s0undt3ch> |
Orbyn: great! |
| [01:11:54] |
<Orbyn> |
would be nice if that was documented somewhere in the header_logo section |
| [01:13:54] |
<s0undt3ch> |
it's documented on trac's site i think |

good evening, I have a question, can i run trac on a sharedhostwebspace with python as cgi but without shellaccess? |
| [14:13:12] |
<coderanger> |
It would be annoying to setup, but yes |
| [14:13:18] |
<coderanger> |
it would also be slow |
| [14:13:28] |
<pygi> |
pythonist1, ask hosting folks to set it up for you |
| [14:13:48] |
<coderanger> |
basically do the install locally and then [S]FTP the whole shebang over |
| [14:14:28] |
<pythonist1> |
ok i have installed its in the site-packages directory i think can i install it in a special folder? |
| [14:16:15] |
<pythonist1> |
coderanger, what files/folder i have to uppload? |
| [14:16:49] |
<maxb> |
Hmm. Unless the shared host already has the subversion python bindings set up, then I would think it would be (almost) impossible. |
| [14:17:43] |
<pythonist1> |
i can test it with import svn right? |
| [14:17:50] |
<maxb> |
Yes |
| [14:18:05] |
<maxb> |
Hmm, and you'd need clearsilver pre-installed too |
| [14:18:26] |
<pythonist1> |
how can i test that, and can i install it only with ftpaccess? |
| [14:18:35] |
<maxb> |
"import neo_cgi" |
| [14:19:04] |
<maxb> |
And no, you cannot really install it without shell access - since it needs to be compiled |
| [14:19:52] |
* |

| [14:20:36] |

svn bindings and clearsilver are C code that needs to be compiled. |
| [14:20:57] |
<maxb> |
There's no guarantee that whatever you might compile locally would be binary compatible |

Anyone know how to fix the "Expected version '3' of repository; found version '5'" error when running trac-admin initenv? |
| [14:24:08] |
<pythonist1> |
so it's extremly complicated? |
| [14:24:53] |
<cbeck> |
I think I have the correct bindings built from my svn 1.4.0 source but not sure where to go next... |
| [14:25:26] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Means you have a 1.4.x svnadmin with 1.3.x or earlier bindings |
| [14:27:30] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: Back to #svn I guess. Something is going wrong with your make swig&&make swig-install. |
| [14:28:06] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: yeah, i've figured that, but don't know where to find the mismatch. My svn is 1.4, i did the make swig-py routine, but don't know where to find the disconnect btw versions... |
| [14:28:57] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: On my machine the make install rule put my bindings in /usr/local/lib/svn-python. I had to ln -s libsvn an svn to /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages. |
| [14:29:35] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: import svn.core; import libsvn.core; print libsvn._core |
| [14:29:53] |
<maxb> |
check that its actually importing what you think it's importing |
| [14:29:55] |
<cbeck> |
miron: k, I'll root around in there and see what I can figure out |
| [14:30:51] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: <module 'libsvn._core' from '/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/libsvn/_core.so'> |
| [14:31:02] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: my py-fu is weak |
| [14:31:56] |
<maxb> |
pythonist1: Well, it pretty much all hinges on you either figuring out what Linux distro and version the shared host is running, and setting up a suitable build environment to build compatible binaries, or the shared host having a suitable compilation environment installed, and you doing something awkward like hacing a CGI that causes a build to be run. Either way, I'd want to read the... |
| [14:31:58] |
<maxb> |
...hosting agreement carefully first, to make sure they didn't forbid uploading your own compiled code. |
| [14:32:45] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: It's my server under my desk... so I think I'm okay there ;-) |
| [14:33:06] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: ubuntu 6.10, svn 1.40, python 2.4, trac 0.10 |
| [14:33:41] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: umm, that last was addressed to pythonist1 |
| [14:33:44] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Describe your installation. Python from source/distro-package? Subversion from source/distro-package? Any symlinks or .pth files in use to get the bindings on the python path? |
| [14:35:02] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: I'm running the same environment, you'll need to copy/link the bindings from /usr/local/lib/svn-python. |
| [14:35:02] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: lol sorry yes it was... svn from src, python from distro, didn't do anything to setup bindings in python path |
| [14:35:30] |
<pythonist1> |
maxb, sys.version is putting out 2.4.1 (#1, May 16 2005, 15:19:29) [GCC 4.0.0 20050512 (Red Hat 4.0.0-5)] so i have to set up a redhatsys? I don't think i will do that^^ |
| [14:35:49] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: ahhh... looks like I may have installed old bindings from distro at some point |
| [14:36:03] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Hmm... then judging by the path you pasted... I think you have distro-packaged bindings installed. |
| [14:36:36] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: yeah, something I did and forgot i guess... |
| [14:37:50] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Search for PYTHONPATH in subversion/bindings/swig/INSTALL and read those 2 paragraphs |
| [14:39:31] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: k, will do. thanks. |

<pythonist1> |
maxb thanks for helb but i think i'am asking a guy with a root for asylum on it |

pythonist1: I agree, this would definitely be a whole lot easier if someone with root access is willing to install the prerequisites for you. |
| [14:43:27] |
<pythonist1> |
maxb, what should i prefer when i let it install on the root mod_python or fcgi |
| [14:43:53] |
<coderanger> |
its pretty moot |
| [14:44:45] |

ok, I've sorted my svn bindings issues (i think)... now I have what appears to be an apache config issue as tracd works ok |
| [16:06:45] |
<cbeck> |
see: http://becknet.no-ip.org/trac/ and the error on http://becknet.no-ip.org/trac/public |
| [16:07:48] |
<cbeck> |
does anyone know why it would work via tracd but not apache? |
| [16:10:55] |
<coderanger> |
usually it means you have a library mismatch |
| [16:11:12] |
<coderanger> |
apache is compiled against one version, but something else against another |
| [16:11:21] |
<coderanger> |
the apache version gets there first and breaks things |
| [16:13:55] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Hmm, that's rather odd... perhaps trac is, in fact *not* finding the svn bindings/ |
| [16:14:47] |
<cbeck> |
it works fine with tracd and is letting me browse source etc |
| [16:15:22] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: to fix the earlier problem i uninstalled the distro svn version and reinstalled svn bindings and trac from source |
| [16:15:34] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: thx btw |
| [16:16:10] |
<maxb> |
How did you put the svn bindings on the python path? It looks like whatever you did isn't taking effect for apache. |
| [16:17:13] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: Go into python and 'import svn.repos' Do you get an error? |
| [16:18:10] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: no, works fine |
| [16:18:55] |
<maxb> |
Sounds to me like Trac (when run from Apache) is doing its "from svn import fs, repos, core, delta" and getting an ImportError |
| [16:19:35] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: do i need to add PythonPath "sys.path + ['/path/to/trac']" to the <Location> directive? |
| [16:19:46] |
<Miron> |
maxb: Most likely. I had the same error when I did my install. The problem was neon. I had to build it separetly. |
| [16:20:30] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Well, that all depends on whether you installed Trac onto the default python path or not. |
| [16:21:30] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.subversion.trac.general/10993 -- Check out Garrett McGrath's comments. |
| [16:21:46] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: did whatever the default 'python setup.py install' does... although I still have a trac under /usr/share/trac... leftover from distro install? |
| [16:22:55] |
<maxb> |
If you "setup.py install"-ed as root, then it probably put stuff into subdirs of /usr |
| [16:25:16] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: i have a /usr/lib/pythin2.4/site-packages/trac and under /user/shared/trac is this correct? |
| [16:25:43] |
<maxb> |
Sounds right |
| [16:25:52] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: Yeah. /usr/share/trac contains stuff for all trac environments. |
| [16:26:01] |
<maxb> |
In which case, you shouldn't need PythonPath for apache to find trac |
| [16:26:03] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: k, yeah i'm seeing that now... |
| [16:26:24] |
<maxb> |
However: Did you do the subversion.pth thing? |
| [16:27:03] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: sorry, which is that? |
| [16:27:51] |
<maxb> |
The thing in subversion/bindings/swig/INSTALL that I suggested |
| [16:30:07] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: oh, ah no... I'd copied the libs themselves |
| [16:30:33] |
<maxb> |
hmm. Well, I guess that works, though it seems rather messy to me. |
| [16:31:04] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: nah this'll never give me trouble down the line ;-) |
| [16:31:43] |
<cbeck> |

<maxb> |
that is a bit of a mystery, yes |

How are you running trac through apache? cgi? fcgi? modpython? |

One last thought.... modify the trac code to show the value of sys.path in the error message? |
| [16:49:44] |
<maxb> |
Might be informative |
| [16:50:10] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: or this... http://becknet.no-ip.org/pyinfo |
| [16:51:02] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: sys.path on that page sufficient? |
| [16:51:11] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: Hrrmmm, maybe you have two differen python svn bindings out there and running pythong/mod_python pick them up differently. The trac error sounds like it can't import svn, but you said you could when testing by hand. |
| [16:51:30] |
<maxb> |
Well, the SVN/1.3.2 certainly gives me cause for concern, given that we were supposed to be working with 1.4 |

<Miron> |
cbeck: Did you apt-get svn at one point? Thats where the 1.3 would have come from. Did you apt-get remove that before installing from source? |
| [16:53:26] |
<maxb> |
Additionally, what's with the "NameVirtualHost *:443" ? That's a bit silly |
| [16:53:36] |
<maxb> |
(unrelated, though) |
| [16:54:08] |
<cbeck> |
Miron: yes, originally installed svn1.3.x from distro (apt-get) and today removed svn (which removed trac and python binding packages)... |
| [16:54:25] |
<cbeck> |
Miron: and then built svn, bindings, trac etc from source and installed again |
| [16:54:35] |
<maxb> |
As far as the svn problem goes, I'd suggest that you carefully and completely remove the remnants of Subversion 1.3 that you evidently have lying around, so you don't have the confusion of multiple svn versions to deal with |
| [16:54:42] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: apache from source or package? |
| [16:55:41] |
<cbeck> |
apache2 from package, and yes it looks like the svn1.3.2 is from the install of a svn dav package for apache... |
| [16:56:36] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: yes, I' have been hacking a lot on this file... going to rewrite once i figure out the other pieces |
| [16:57:20] |
<maxb> |
Might be wise to get a tiny script running under mod_python which just does "from svn import fs, repos, core, delta" - to see what happens |
| [16:57:25] |
<cbeck> |
Miron: maxb: BTW you guys devs for trac? |
| [16:57:26] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: What is showing in your apache error log? Perhaps different versions of APR are causing problems? |
| [16:57:44] |
<Miron> |
Not I. |
| [17:01:49] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: ahh sounds good, but I'm don't know where to start with py web stuff |
| [17:02:10] |
<maxb> |
not I, though I am for svn |
| [17:03:43] |
<maxb> |
The mod_python tutorial is reasonably good, IIRC - I think it walks you through setting up a simple test script |

Eureka! |
| [17:09:49] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: Miron: I got it! i removed the mod_dav_svn modules and it worked |
| [17:10:07] |
<coderanger> |
library conflict? ;-) |
| [17:10:28] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: Ohhhh. Maybe it's an APR conflict? |
| [17:10:58] |
<maxb> |
Aha, then it was definitely a library version conflict that only affected mod_python because in that case the python interpreter is running in the same process as all the other apache modules. |
| [17:11:23] |
<cbeck> |
kinda looks that way... file a bug? |
| [17:11:34] |
<coderanger> |
Its not a bug really |
| [17:11:40] |
<coderanger> |
you just need to fix your system |
| [17:11:49] |
<coderanger> |
its the unix version of DLL Hell |
| [17:12:10] |
<cbeck> |
coderanger: sounds really *fun*, i'm not sure what I'm looking for though |
| [17:12:16] |
<coderanger> |
if you are using a binary distro, you can file a bug with them |
| [17:12:29] |
<coderanger> |
if you are building things from source, just rebuild anything in question |
| [17:12:48] |
<coderanger> |
(if you are doing both, it is to be expected ;-) |
| [17:12:48] |
<cbeck> |
well the apache2 was a distro install |
| [17:13:12] |
<coderanger> |
alect: trac-hacks isn't responding |
| [17:13:18] |
<coderanger> |
cbeck: And subversion wasnt? |
| [17:13:27] |
<alect> |
yeah |
| [17:13:38] |
<cbeck> |
well, that's exactly what I've done -- apache2 from distro, everything else form source at this point |
| [17:13:39] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: Maybe 'ldd' apache and your dav_svn modules and see if apr problems? |
| [17:13:43] |
<alect> |
i can't log into the root vserver either |
| [17:13:51] |
<coderanger> |
cbeck: Yeah, thats usually asking for trouble |
| [17:14:31] |
<coderanger> |
debian or RH? |
| [17:14:44] |
<cbeck> |
coderanger: ubuntu 6.10 - debian |
| [17:15:00] |
<coderanger> |
cbeck: Rebuild the package yourself |
| [17:15:14] |
<coderanger> |
(for apache that is) |
| [17:16:05] |
<maxb> |
cbeck: Basically, all your grief came from one source: you had bits of distro Subversion 1.3 and from-source Subversion 1.4 at the same time |
| [17:17:52] |
<maxb> |
The only sore point to watch out for is that when compiling Subversion against an existing apache, it's best to force it to use the pre-existing apr and apr-util |
| [17:19:53] |
<Miron> |
cbeck: I had to compile apache from source. Force svn to use that apr. I also had to compile neon seperately. |
| [17:20:18] |
<cbeck> |
Yeah, looks like that's the route i'll be taking... |
| [17:20:58] |
<coderanger> |
yay for Gentoo (and other ports-ish systems) making all this a non issue |
| [17:21:22] |
<cbeck> |
coderanger: ahh, yeah... what about apt-get ;-) |
| [17:21:49] |
<Miron> |
svn 1.4 and trac .10 didn't make it into the ubuntu 6.10 release which is sad face. |
| [17:21:54] |
<coderanger> |
apt, like all binary systems, can fall victim to these kinds of binary annoyances |
| [17:22:23] |
<coderanger> |
the upside is it is much faster |
| [17:22:44] |
<cbeck> |
yeah, I'm feeling the speed ;-) |
| [17:22:59] |
<coderanger> |
how long did you spend debugging this ;-) |
| [17:23:01] |
<cbeck> |
it's the maintenance thats the trouble |
| [17:23:04] |
<cbeck> |
hours |
| [17:23:22] |
<pygi> |
Miron, that's why you don't use ubuntu :P |
| [17:23:30] |
<coderanger> |
just beware the danger that is mixing packages and source |
| [17:24:26] |
<cbeck> |
maxb: Miron: coderanger: thanks for your help... I'd have torn my hair out without someone to mull over it with me... |
| [17:24:39] |
<cbeck> |
now to go build me some source! |
| [17:26:14] |
<maxb> |
Actually, I find Debian/Ubuntu very nice to work with. An awful lot of pain can be avoided by following a simple rule: *DON'T* have multiple versions of the same thing installed simultaneously unless you know exactly what you're doing. |
| [17:28:21] |
<Miron> |
apt-get is nice... when the packages are up to date. |
| [17:31:43] |
<maxb> |
And when they aren't... roll your own :-) |
| [17:32:38] |
<maxb> |
I'm a bit of a fanatic for packages. On the systems I admin, even the majority of the stuff in /usr/local is in .debs |

bugzilla has an overly complicated interface |

<wardi> |
arooni: much, much simpler |
| [18:31:21] |
<wardi> |
arooni: regular users might actually use it to report bugs |

and you'll have to modify the templates |
| [18:32:32] |
<arooni> |
what's the best way to get started with trac? |

<arooni> |
i just installed it and got it hooked in with SVN |

<arooni> |
now i'm not sure what to do next.... its just me working omy project so far |

<tj9991> |
is this a trac problem, or my client? |

tj9991: you're probably using the CGI version of the PHP executable instead of the CLI version |

what version of Trac? current versions should warn you about that |
