[02:42:22] <jonasn> Hi. I'm using trac 0.10.3. I have set up notification like in the howto with all notification on for instance "always_notify_updater = true". The problem is that the users only get email if they use the cc field. I always get email if I set my address in smtp_always_bcc. However notify owner, reporter and updater does not work. I have tried to look in the trac log, the apache log and the mail log, and there seems to be no sign of an error.
[02:43:06] <jonasn> Does anyone have an idea of how I could find the error?

[05:16:38] <garrido> hi all, some questions again about tracforge
[05:16:50] <garrido> i've kind of got it working
[05:16:57] <garrido> (thnx, coderanger)
[05:17:31] <garrido> but it seems I can't authenticate directly in one of the "child" projects
[05:18:27] <garrido> if I go to the master env, I authenticate allright, then if I change the url by hand, or click on another project at the "available projects" list, I get all correct permissions over there
[05:19:43] <garrido> however, if I go straight to http://domain/index.cgi/some-project/login, I get a message saying "Authentication information not available"
[05:21:07] <garrido> while I'm at it, another one: if I go to http://domain , I get a list of available projects. Is it possible to style this list? Is it possible to request authentication before showing this list?

[07:10:39] * retracile has joined #trac
[07:11:37] <kristofer> http://tracsite/browser is telling me 'access denied'.. how do I fix it?
[07:12:04] <kristofer> access denied is displayed when i hover over what should be a subdirectory with source code
[07:12:36] <lisppaste5> garrido pasted "trac.ini for client env" at http://paste.lisp.org/display/38786
[07:13:19] <kristofer> if I append a directory like so: http://tracsite/browser/subdir - it will show me the stuff inside, but it still says access denied for sud directories beyond that
[07:16:42] <djonsite> 2 svn repositories and 2 projects installed on the same single linux box. Does that imply: ...TracMultiplePorjects/MultipleEnvironments or TracMultipleProjects/SingleEnvironment (single environment being the same linux box?)

[07:26:06] <idnar> Genshi trunk@HEAD is too new for trac trunk@HEAD
[07:26:15] <coderanger> indeed
[07:26:23] <coderanger> Use Genshi r509
[07:26:38] <idnar> is there an easy way to do that with easy_install, or should I just check Genshi out of svn myself?
[07:27:01] <coderanger> Not sure if setuptools is that smart
[07:27:06] <coderanger> so I would just do it yourself
[07:27:39] * tpollari has quit IRC
[07:27:54] <djonsite> ok. Nervous nilly here. Once I download the package and type $python ./setup.py install that's going to install in the directory I downloaded correct? unless I use --prefix=/path/to/installdir SO what is the appropriate installdir?
[07:28:06] <coderanger> No
[07:28:10] * tpollari has joined #trac
[07:28:19] <pacopablo> by default it installs it to the global site-packages dir
[07:28:25] <coderanger> It will install to the default folder, which is your python site-pacakges for code
[07:28:32] <pacopablo> which resides in your python installation
[07:28:34] <coderanger> and /usr/share/trac for static content
[07:29:31] <idnar> mmmm

[07:34:21] <stalker`> retracile: hello
[07:34:25] <pacopablo> djonsite: arbitrary dir that will hold your trac env
[07:35:14] <stalker`> retracile: workflow is great like you designed it - i understood it easly and ported our code review plugin to use it
[07:35:30] <djonsite> cool. Any recommendations as an appropriate path?
[07:35:52] <retracile> stalker`: Thanks! Glad to hear it! (Of course, alect deserves a good chunk of the design credit.)
[07:35:57] <djonsite> Is there an accepted "standard"
[07:36:26] <stalker`> retracile: one question though: i needed another action, namely set_status and i added it to ticket/api.py. should i send a patch or scould i implement it custom (by implementing your interface)?
[07:37:35] <stalker`> retracile: anyway - it is very cool that you can do almost anything from the config file and when you need special stuff you can easly jump to code
[07:37:58] <retracile> stalker`: generally the status is set by the state transition in the workflow... can you describe why you need set_status?
[07:38:06] <stalker`> retracile: sorry - operation not action
[07:38:09] <retracile> stalker`: :) cool.
[07:38:16] <stalker`> the operation you define on an action
[07:38:37] <retracile> stalker`: right, you defined a set_status operation... I'm wondering why you needed it.
[07:38:38] <stalker`> i need an action where you choose a custom status
[07:38:55] <stalker`> that's why
[07:39:02] <stalker`> and i needed to populate a combo
[07:39:05] * thm has joined #trac
[07:39:10] <stalker`> with the available states
[07:39:40] <stalker`> so i did like you did for set_resolution
[07:41:06] <retracile> stalker`: Ah, ok. Hmm.... I'm debating whether that should be in api.py or done like the CodeReview.py example...
[07:41:15] <foxpaul> hi all - any ideas what might be causing this when trying to view a trac site? NotFoundError: Path error.cs not found
[07:41:27] <stalker`> retracile: exactly - thats why i am asking because it is debatable
[07:41:49] <retracile> stalker`: I presume you put it in api.py since that's easier?
[07:42:08] <pacopablo> foxpaul: template dir set incorrectly in your trac.ini file ?
[07:42:42] <foxpaul> pacopablo, ah, thanks!
[07:43:02] <coderanger> foxpaul: You changed your templates dir and then upgraded
[07:43:16] <stalker`> retracile: first i put it there because i totally forgot about the interface, then i said "hmm it is not ok. i had one patch now i have another patch" and remembered the interface. but i thaught it is a pretty general thing so i'd better ask
[07:43:27] <retracile> stalker`: Hm.... well, I have "leave_status" in api.py, so "set_status" would seem to fit....
[07:43:29] * GreyGhost has joined #trac
[07:43:37] <stalker`> retracile: exactly
[07:43:58] <GreyGhost> hello all
[07:44:05] <retracile> stalker`: So how did you go about determining the available status values?
[07:44:42] <stalker`> i took them from the database like the resolutions when doing set_resolution
[07:45:02] <stalker`> retracile: but yes - you need to have them in the db then
[07:45:07] <stalker`> retracile: which is not nice
[07:45:17] <retracile> Hrm
[07:45:24] <stalker`> retracile: if you want to do it by just editing the config
[07:45:35] <stalker`> retracile: but i believe i can determine them anyway
[07:45:54] <GreyGhost> i'm a total n00b but want to set up trac in a vm to test out the macros i write.. it is ubuntu .. installed trac using apt-get .. now that i come to the settings parrt.. i ant to limit usage to just me and not to the intternet .. what seetings should i use? i've been following this http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracOnUbuntu

[07:47:13] <retracile> stalker`: email me/trac-dev with a patch for set_status. We need to hash out details, but I'm not opposed to adding the operation.

[07:47:27] * jonasn has quit IRC
[07:47:35] <GreyGhost> i'lll try now then :)
[07:47:39] <foxpaul> hmm, after setting the right templates directory, i now get this weird one: HTMLParseError: malformed start tag, at line 171, column 10
[07:47:45] <foxpaul> but trac is started at least :)
[07:47:54] <stalker`> GreyGhost: yes, it should work. just follow the instructions
[07:48:09] <GreyGhost> stalker` ,ok thanks sooo much :)
[07:48:23] <retracile> stalker`: Oh, you did see workflow/StatusFixer.py I presume? (It doesn't give a select box, just text box)
[07:48:33] <stalker`> retracile: what do you mean about hashing out details? we need to find a way to get the states except the DB?
[07:49:14] <stalker`> retracile: didn't see it. it was really obvious - i didn't need examples :)
[07:50:16] <retracile> stalker`: as hashing out details, I was thinking about implementation details... getting the list of valid status values is one. They're easier to discuss when you have a starting point implemented.
[07:51:07] <stalker`> retracile: ok. i'll send it to trac-dev
[07:51:13] <retracile> stalker`: Take a look at StatusFixer; it doesn't add an operation, it provides admins with a way to fix the status.
[07:51:29] <retracile> stalker`: which may not be quite what you're after... I just want you to be aware of it.
[07:52:09] <retracile> (it's in sample-plugins/workflow)
[07:53:20] <retracile> stalker`: Oh, if you have time, could you see if you can reproduce the other workflow problem that's being reported on trac-dev? (the one where all the resolutions are selected)? I can't, so...
[07:53:58] <stalker`> retracile: i'll look for it. see you later then
[07:58:40] <retracile> stalker`: thanks :)

[08:54:17] <pacopablo> foxpaul: what are you using to serve the pages?
[08:54:29] <foxpaul> pacopablo, apache
[08:54:59] <pacopablo> try with tracd and see if it still persists (it should, if not then the problem is very strange indeed)
[08:55:09] <foxpaul> will try, thanks
[08:57:17] <foxpaul> pacopablo, never used tracd before. i've run it and gone to the address in my browser, and i see "Available projects" with my project listed, but clicking it goes nowhere
[08:57:41] <pacopablo> check the trac log and the out put from tracd
[08:57:50] <pacopablo> ie, don't set tracd to run in the background
[08:57:55] <pacopablo> @faq logging
[08:57:55] <evil_twin> pacopablo: "logging" is http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracLogging <-- Enable debug logging to file, ensure your environments log/ directory is writeable by your web server user, check for errors.
[08:58:04] <pacopablo> should show you a traceback someplace
[08:58:09] <foxpaul> ok thanks
[09:02:26] <foxpaul> hmm, just getting: [27/Mar/2007 18:06:56] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 -
[09:02:42] <foxpaul> logging to stderr
[09:02:55] <pacopablo> and nothing in the trac log?
[09:03:03] <foxpaul> no, log dir is empty
[09:03:16] <pacopablo> and you enabled debugging, right?
[09:03:21] <pacopablo> and restarted tracd
[09:03:34] <foxpaul> yeah, logging level is DEBUG
[09:03:54] <pacopablo> and the type is set to FILE, right?
[09:04:00] <foxpaul> logtype = file, but the file is empty
[09:04:03] <pacopablo> hmm
[09:04:09] <pacopablo> very strange
[09:04:32] <pacopablo> check permissions on the trac environment
[09:06:04] * dharrigan has quit IRC
[09:08:02] <foxpaul> pacopablo, tracd works now. i pointed --env-parent-dir at the one containing my repo's, rather than the actual repo
[09:08:16] <foxpaul> and you're right, i do still get the error: HTMLParseError: malformed start tag, at line 171, column 10
[09:09:12] <foxpaul> hmm, i think it's a problem with this particular project. my other ones work ok
[09:22:24] <andrewdied> Is it possible to copy a bug in trac 0.10.3, or do I need to copy-and-paste all the data into a new ticket?
[09:23:27] <pacopablo> andrewdied: no automated way. you could monkey with the SQL directly
[09:23:41] <pacopablo> other than that, copy-and-paste the data
[09:24:24] <andrewdied> pacopablo: Thanks for the confirmation. I suspected it was that way, but I've been pleasently surprised before. :)
[09:26:41] <djonsite> I thought ClearSilver isn't required anymore
[09:29:10] <pacopablo> djonsite: for 0.11 it's not
[09:29:16] <pacopablo> but 0.11 isn't released yet

[09:41:20] <pacopablo> cool
[09:44:27] <Dwarfoo7> ok mitsuhiko thanks
[09:44:49] <mitsuhiko> Dwarfoo7: for what?
[09:44:59] <mitsuhiko> ah

[10:09:57] <djonsite> I take it that .11 is under development?
[10:10:47] <pacopablo> yes
[10:11:06] <coderanger> trunk will become 0.11 when released
[10:14:44] <stalker`> retracile: regarding the states i had another idea which seemed cool - don't know how useful it is though. i thought about having the ability to pass parameters to the operations directly from config. something like "newstatus.operations = set_status(s1, s2)". this parameters can be received by the operation handling routine then.
[10:15:08] <stalker`> retracile: the thing is that it is not really needed for the few operations we support out of the box
[10:15:30] <stalker`> retracile: but what if we supported custom operations? ever thought about that?
[10:17:55] <coderanger> At that point, you should probably write a new controller plugin
[10:19:14] <stalker`> cobaltsixty: are you talking to me?
[10:19:23] <stalker`> coderanger: not cobaltsixty
[10:19:27] <coderanger> Indeed
[10:19:45] <stalker`> coderanger: i was talking about the workflow branch
[10:19:53] <coderanger> As was I
[10:20:12] <coderanger> The trac.ini-based configuration for workflows isn't supposed to be a catch-all
[10:20:19] <coderanger> Its just for the simple ones
[10:20:43] <pacopablo> stalker`: part of the workflow branch is to create the proper hooks such that it's fairly simple to replace the whole workflow implementation with another one
[10:20:46] <coderanger> At the point that you need something like variant parameters (like you mentioned), make a new workflow controller
[10:20:47] <pacopablo> via a plugin
[10:20:52] <stalker`> coderanger: yes, i know. you can implement ITicketActionController for more complex scenarios
[10:21:14] <stalker`> coderanger: but i just had this idea about custom operations in the config file
[10:21:40] <coderanger> And I'm saying thats too complex in my mind
[10:22:55] <coderanger> trac.ini is not a replacement for Python code
[10:22:57] <stalker`> coderanger: you might be right... just an idea :) since i just added an action and it seems more obvious to be able somehow to have custom operations that you can call from config
[10:23:38] <stalker`> coderanger: yeah... but if it can replace it - very good (not that python is bad, but still i prefer ini over python)
[10:25:02] <coderanger> Thats the kind of attitude I hope Eli is trying to suppress
[10:25:20] <coderanger> For something that is just simple state transitions, the text format is fine
[10:25:34] <coderanger> Anything more than that is basically code, so why invent a new language
[10:26:38] <stalker`> coderanger: you didn't understand. i said it would be nice to create operations in python and call them from ini
[10:26:48] <coderanger> Why though
[10:27:20] * tkp has joined #trac
[10:27:26] <coderanger> Python has function calls, use them
[10:30:27] <stalker`> coderanger: you're right. you can very easy do the job in get_ticket_changes. well... never mind then :)
[10:32:47] <coderanger> I just don't want to end up with some crazy, Trac-specific language for workflows
[10:33:01] * jimmy-james has quit IRC
[10:33:21] <coderanger> Since it is already pretty complex for a config system
[10:33:59] <stalker`> coderanger: i don't want to break anything... trac will be ok
[10:34:20] <stalker`> coderanger: just throwing ideas in here
[10:35:26] <coderanger> I know, I'm just sitting in class and trying to tune out the drone of the professor. IRC does wonders for that ;-)

[11:09:27] <retracile> stalker`: I'm not going to add parameters to the operations; you can see how I did the sample-plugins/workflow/CodeReview.py.
[11:09:34] <evil_twin> New news from t.e.o: WebAdmin edited by anonymous <http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/WebAdmin>
[11:10:18] <retracile> stalker`: Of course, using the same method, you could add an operation that recognizes parameters. (You'd have to choose something other than a comma to separate them though)
[11:11:19] <retracile> stalker`: I think that coderanger's right; we don't want to create our own little ad-hoc language.
