[00:01:37] * asmodai yawns
[00:02:38] * asmodai reads back
[00:02:47] <asmodai> Jeez, there's still people using Coda/AFS/etc
[00:03:42] <coderanger> RPI's entire computer system is AFS based
[00:08:49] <asmodai> And with that they're around the only users worldwide? ;)
[00:09:15] <coderanger> I know CMU and Athena (MIT) still have cells running
[00:09:33] <coderanger> though the inter-cell linking system seems to not be maintained anymore
[00:11:46] <asmodai> yay?

[01:38:59] * asmodai pats coderanger

[05:06:46] <smig> Hello
[05:07:05] <smig> Sorry to trouble this easter week-end with my newbie question
[05:07:36] <smig> I just installed trac and got this error on my browser : "Unsupported version control system "svn""
[05:08:05] <smig> documentation says I need a swig-aware subversion
[05:23:13] * smig has quit IRC
[05:35:49] * smig has joined #trac
[05:37:48] <asmodai> yea
[05:37:56] <asmodai> you need to install the subversion python bindings
[05:38:12] <smig> yes (sorry the my savage reboot)
[05:38:17] <asmodai> On Linux you have subversion-python packages
[05:38:21] <smig> I did it but it didnt work
[05:38:25] <asmodai> on BSDs you have subversion-python ports
[05:38:44] <smig> I checked the installed versions against these listed on the trac website
[05:38:49] <smig> it seemed to match
[05:39:05] <smig> i made a full upgrade and now it works fine
[05:40:01] * ecmanaut has quit IRC
[05:41:22] <asmodai> ok
[05:41:26] <asmodai> so no issues now?
[05:43:23] <smig> it seems so
[05:43:38] <smig> thans a lot
[05:43:56] <smig> surely i some version mismatch between python and subversion

[07:29:26] <joebigler> Hello, we are using Trac 0.10.3 at Penn State. We use the wiki to document software. Currently, I do the initial documentation in MS Word (I am using Windows XP) and then cut and paste to the trac wiki. I like to use images in my documenation. I would like to use an editor or format that I can use on my local machine independent of Trac. I would like to put my documentation directly...
[07:29:28] <joebigler> ...into the Wiki with a minimum of editing. Any suggestions are greatly appreaciated. Thanks in advance for all replies.

[12:09:44] <coderanger> Copolycube: There is the PageOutline macro that comes with Trac

[14:56:11] <alch> the thing is i own a VPS, now i need to find out if i have python installed and other stuff.
[14:56:32] <coderanger> linux>
[14:56:33] <coderanger> ?
[14:56:43] <alch> i have linux red hat 9.0
[14:56:45] <alch> that i know
[14:56:59] <coderanger> Thats ancienct you know
[14:57:07] <coderanger> er, ancient
[14:57:19] <coderanger> about 4 years old IIRC
[14:58:06] <alch> yeah, well im not the one configuring the servers
[14:58:11] <alch> i just rent it from a company alas
[14:58:41] <alch> i wish i'd knew a little bit more about linux machine to a point where i could actually manage my own dedicated machine
[14:58:49] <alch> but im not at that point yet.

[15:05:41] <alch> coderanger, is it the official channel for Trac?
[15:09:18] <alch> can i run trac without svn? i just want the bugtracker
[15:10:04] <Copolycube> there is a bugtracket in trac ?
[15:10:20] <alch> trac is a bugtracker, no?
[15:10:28] <alch> i mean, a ticket system
[15:10:39] <Copolycube> oh...
[15:10:40] <Copolycube> ok
[15:10:56] <alch> i dont know Trac
[15:11:24] <alch> i need some kind of bug tracker to track my bug for my web application, i dont know if i should use Trac
[15:11:30] <alch> can someone help me and advise me?
[15:11:50] <Copolycube> for sure I can't
[15:11:52] <Copolycube> sorry

[16:42:55] <alch> i gave up coderanger ;(
[16:42:58] <alch> too complex for me
[16:43:07] <alch> too much stuff to install to get it running
[16:43:12] <coderanger> what is?
[16:43:14] <danderson> eh?
[16:43:32] <danderson> trac-admin bleh initenv, and run tracd to serve it...
[16:43:41] <coderanger> You need Python (should already be installed), a database, clearsilver, and Trac
[16:43:52] <alch> what is clearsilver?
[16:44:05] <coderanger> The templating system
[16:44:05] <alch> and does Mysql 4.X works with Trac?
[16:44:21] <coderanger> Yes, via MySqlDb (those are the python bindings)
[16:44:38] <alch> so what would i need to install first then?
[16:44:41] <alch> to make this all works?
[16:44:49] <coderanger> did you read TracInstall
[16:44:55] <alch> yeah
[16:44:58] <coderanger> It has everything listed in great detail
[16:45:00] <alch> didnt understand much
[16:45:03] <alch> k
[16:45:07] <alch> ill try to read again
[16:45:52] <coderanger> On Red Hat the normal way to do this would be through yum (or looking for RPMs and installing them by hand)
[16:46:02] <coderanger> but I doubt anyone still makes RH9 RPMs
[16:48:31] <alch> i wish i knew what is a yum
[16:48:33] <alch> ;(
[16:48:45] <alch> automatic updater that what i googled
[16:49:09] <coderanger> alch: Yes, its a package management tool based on RPMs
[16:49:29] <alch> and how does it help me? with Trac?
[16:49:29] * kopernikus has quit IRC
[16:49:41] <coderanger> Have you ever run a Linux system before?
[16:49:53] <alch> like i said, no. its an hosting.
[16:50:11] <coderanger> You may want to ask your host to do the install for you then
[16:50:14] <alch> i just rent a VPS, its managed, and the guy there said they would look into instaling Trac but it will take them a lot of time
[16:50:50] <alch> im waiting up to 1 week now because they say its a custom installation and not sure if they will be able to even install it
[16:50:57] <coderanger> Okay, I would wait if I were you, or hire someone else to do the install
[16:51:31] <coderanger> Trac assumes basic familiarity with Linux, and things like webserver configuration
[16:51:46] <coderanger> This can't really be avoided
[16:51:50] <alch> im familiar with apache
[16:52:08] <alch> but not with installation under linux
[16:52:13] <alch> it something i lack
[16:52:27] <coderanger> Google is your friend
[16:52:31] <alch> yeah
[16:52:34] <coderanger> there are many guides on software administration using RPMs
[16:52:40] <alch> but i do need some kind of machine to experiment
[16:52:50] <alch> im not going to experiment it on my production server ;)
[16:53:04] <alch> maybe ill do it on one of my laptop
[16:53:06] <alch> here at home
[16:53:13] <alch> format and install RH
[16:53:26] <coderanger> You can use a VM, under VMWare or similar
[16:53:34] <alch> VM?
[16:53:38] <alch> virtual machine?
[16:53:42] <coderanger> yes
[16:54:00] <alch> its a VPS no?
[16:54:06] <alch> virtual private server
[16:54:10] <coderanger> No ...
[16:54:16] <alch> ok.
[16:54:28] <alch> i think ill have to google a lot before i attempt some installation on my own
[16:54:31] <alch> anyway, thanks for the help

[18:50:30] <Macca> i'm hungry :(
[18:53:39] <Macca> hmm: SetEnv LC_TIME "en_AU" didn't work, adding LC_TIME=en_AU to the ENV part of /etc/init.d/apache2 didn't work, PythonOption TracLocale "en_AU" worked.
[18:54:13] <coderanger> the first is for [F]CGI, the second for mod_python
