[00:41:56] <mgrant_> If I upgrade python from 2.4 to 2.5, do I need to reinstall trac? The plugins seem to be in /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ on my box. Perhaps that's the wrong place?
[00:42:14] * eighty4 has joined #trac
[00:48:12] * crump has joined #trac
[00:48:37] * crump has left #trac
[00:52:59] <osimons> mgrant_: nothing installed for 2.4 will work with 2.5 as they have different libraries as you noticed. you need to reintall using python2.5, yes.
[00:55:40] * eighty4 has left #trac

[01:16:10] <marcus_> is there a way to edit attachment descriptions after upload? or even delete an uploaded attachment?
[01:25:59] * Synapse has quit IRC
[01:48:12] <mgrant_> osimons, thanks.
[01:50:35] <osimons> marcus_: sure. delete is possible if you have permission. or, if you upload attachment with same name (and have perm) you will be asked if you want to replace old one

[02:14:42] <schlangen> hi, how can I install themes? As .egg-plugin? or is there an easier way?
[02:15:31] <schlangen> and what about the TracThemeEngine, how do I have to install themes so that they appear on the theme-list?

[02:54:53] <marcus_> hmm, still wonder how to add comments to a wiki page.
[02:59:03] <marcus_> ah, got it. it's #!comment
[03:00:47] <marcus_> can i include images which are located in trunk within the wiki without linking to absolute path?
[03:01:43] <marcus_> ah, [[Image(source:/trunk/trac/htdocs/trac_logo_mini.png)]] seems to be possible
[03:07:03] * xjjk has quit IRC
[03:07:16] * xjjk has joined #trac
[03:10:45] <marcus_> does Image sizing require additional modules, as it does not seem to work by default?
[03:15:26] <osimons> marcus_: check WikiMacros docs and allowed attributes for Image() - it won't actually resize of course, but it sets height and witdth iirc.
[03:18:07] <schlangen> to repeat my question, how can I install themes? As .egg-plugin? or is there an easier way? and what about the TracThemeEngine, how do I have to install themes so that they appear on the theme-list?
[03:19:17] <marcus_> osimons, i have already read this page and still wonder if these Macros are activated by default. I have tried to set something like [[Image(photo.jpg, 120px)]] but the image is still displayed in same size.
[03:21:50] <osimons> marcus_: right. there was an issue with this that i fixed. i suppose that depends on your version of trac
[03:22:23] <marcus_> we have got Trac 0.10.4 installed
[03:23:09] <osimons> marcus_: http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/6483 - fixed for 0.11...
[03:23:28] * igor_ has joined #trac
[03:23:59] <osimons> so, width= and height= should actually work, but the plain use of number that you tried don't for 0.1.x
[03:27:21] <marcus_> okay, we are going to patch or upgrade ;)

[09:19:11] * Muelli has joined #trac
[09:28:22] <coderanger> hi365: In 0.11 it is in the admin GUI
[09:30:35] <hi365> thanks. can i upgrade from the gui (.10)?
[09:31:01] <coderanger> No
[09:31:08] <coderanger> You need to upgrade Trac
[09:32:12] * liquidat0r has joined #trac
[09:33:04] <hi365> coderanger: i understand. what im asking is if i can upgrade from the gui (or is it command line only)
[09:33:45] <coderanger> No, it will never be possible to upgrade trac from the webadmin system
[09:34:29] <hi365> cool. thanks
[09:34:31] * hi365 has left #trac
[09:34:49] <m_stone> coderanger: 'because I say so' for for some actual reason? :)
[09:35:02] <m_stone> *or
[09:35:43] <coderanger> basically we can't be sure of where to install it
[09:36:04] <coderanger> and 9 times out of 10 Apache won't have permissions to write to the install folder (site-packages)
[09:36:48] <m_stone> the permissions problem seems more challenging; you really do want the system to be R/O from the web.
[09:37:19] <m_stone> the installation path problem could be handled fairly easily with a configuration section in the ini-file and some careful checking.
[09:37:35] <m_stone> (I _think_)
[09:37:52] <coderanger> the second issue creates the first, since if we can't install to site-packages (no perms), where should it go
[09:39:32] <m_stone> coderanger: indeed. I would suggest that sysadmins who want a web-upgradable trac need to be forced to do something like add a trac-controlled user to a group owning site-packages, mark one of your scripts setuid-0, or else configure trac to pull its packages from somewhere other than site-packages.
[09:40:10] <m_stone> coderanger: basically, this seems to me to be just another stupid case where people thing that only root should be able to use a packagemanager.
[09:40:11] <coderanger> scripts can't be setuid, so we would either need to depend on sudo (or similar) or ship a wrapper binary
[09:40:17] * PlasmaHH has joined #trac
[09:40:48] <m_stone> coderanger: yup. or figure out how console-kit/policy-kit works.
[09:40:55] <coderanger> in all, while this might be possible, the chances of us ever doing it are near 0 :-)
[09:41:00] <m_stone> coderanger: :)
[09:41:09] <m_stone> coderanger: so how does this interact with virtualenv?
[09:41:12] <PlasmaHH> hi, on my old trac installation I had a TracRobotsTxt plugin... however I cannot find this anymore, does anyone know aynthing of where to get it now?
[09:41:31] <m_stone> coderanger: isn't the point of virtual-env to make user-level python-egg management sane?
[09:41:35] <coderanger> PlasmaHH: Its still on trac-hacks, or at least I haven't touched it
[09:41:52] <coderanger> m_stone: Yeah, but we can't assume people are using it
[09:42:20] <m_stone> sure. my point was that you _could_ build a gui-update feature that relied on it.
[09:42:30] <PlasmaHH> coderanger: uhm, then trac-hacks.org does show something else for me than for you, after TracRedirect there is TracSvnAuthzPlugin in the listing...
[09:42:48] <m_stone> (I also feel no need for such a feature; I'm just trying to determine for myself what the technical obstacles are)
[09:43:04] <coderanger> PlasmaHH: It might not be marked as 0.11 compatible, make sure you have "0.10" checked on the frontpage
[09:43:05] <m_stone> (since I think I may want it rather badly for Sugar)
[09:44:40] <PlasmaHH> coderanger: hm, I thought checking "anyrelease" would be enough, ok, lets see
[09:44:41] <coderanger> m_stone: The nest fun issue is you need to make a what looks an awful lot like a bootloader, since the web frontend might not know about your new path
[09:44:51] <m_stone> explain?
[09:45:13] <PlasmaHH> ah ok, then it shows up. thank you
[09:46:02] <coderanger> m_stone: If you use, say, mod_py and it has the default setup for trac installed in site-packages, if you install a new copy to some user folder via virtualenv, you need to fool mod_py into seeing that instead of the version in site-packages
[09:46:30] <m_stone> hrm.
[09:47:01] * m_stone doesn't know much about mod_py and was thinking more about tracd.
[09:47:12] <coderanger> or you need some way to flush the code cache on upgrade
[09:47:15] <coderanger> same problem
[09:47:28] <coderanger> any persistent interpreter
[09:47:42] <m_stone> sure. but on the case of trac, you can re-exec.
[09:47:50] <m_stone> that's a bit nastier with mod_py, no?
[09:47:52] <m_stone> *tracd
[09:48:28] <m_stone> I was thinking about re-exec'ing through an olpc-update-like symlink scheme.
[09:49:07] <m_stone> (since I've already got that code handy)
[09:49:45] <m_stone> hmm, though I might have problems there because of the need for bind-mounts...
[09:49:55] <m_stone> fuse?
[09:49:56] <m_stone> hmm.
[09:50:00] <m_stone> getting complicated.
[09:50:23] <m_stone> there were some patches for unprivileged bind-mounting floating around.
[09:50:39] <m_stone> but maybe I could find some way to make it work, especially if no chroots were being used.
[09:50:45] * macmaN6789 has joined #trac
[09:50:57] <m_stone> virtualenv obviates the need for chroot for pure-python stuff, I think.
[09:51:08] <m_stone> it's just that you can still shoot yourself in the foot if you try.
[09:51:16] <coderanger> m_stone: See you don't have to worry about things like windows quite as much ;-)
[09:51:28] <m_stone> :)
[09:51:42] <m_stone> coderanger: I intend to enjoy the luxury while it lasts...
[09:53:20] * coderanger -> gettin' his chili on
[09:53:32] <m_stone> 'later!

[11:07:52] * fooka has quit IRC
[11:12:10] * dikim33 has quit IRC
[11:14:55] <jborg> c0uch: No but you can set "[ticket] restrict_owner=true" in trac.ini to turn the owner field to a drop down menu
[11:15:47] <c0uch> Oh, that'd be great! Thanks.
[11:17:58] <jborg> But for that to work all users need to login at least once to appear in the drop down menu
[11:18:36] <c0uch> Alright, thanks for the heads-up. Shouldn't be a problem for us though (small team of 5 logging in daily)
